An unidentified gunman shot and killed five people in a series of shootings in Southern California before taking his own life, police said.
Six people are dead - including the suspected shooter - after a man opened fire at multiple locations in Bakersfield, California on Wednesday, according to police.
The gunman then fled the scene, stopping at a nearby house - where he shot and killed two more men.
The suspect shot and killed the man and then turned the gun on his wife, killing her.
The husband then hijacked a vehicle with a woman and child inside on Fillmore Avenue in Bakersfield. The suspect put the gun to his chest and killed himself.
"We have six people dead, five victims and one suspect", Youngblood said.

One man was shot outside a sports store near a trucking company where the gunman killed two others.
The gunman then trained the weapon on his wife, fatally shooting her inside the business as well. "Obviously, these are not random shootings".
Police say there are at least 30 witnesses, KRON reported.
After shooting his wife and a total of four men, the suspect carjacked a vehicle with a woman and child inside.
Investigators said they will also look at body camera footage from the deputy who confronted the shooter.
Sheriff Donny Youngblood says that the time between the initial shooting at the truck stop to the time that the shooter killed himself was very brief: "I think it was a very short amount of time, about 10 or 15 minutes". "This is highly unusual".
When a male witness showed up, the suspect began chasing the man while firing at him, Youngblood said.
