In a striking rebuke, more than a dozen former top US intelligence officials released a sharply-worded letter late Thursday describing Trump's decision earlier this week to revoke the clearance of former CIA director John Brennan as a blatant attempt to "stifle free speech" and send an "inappropriate and deeply regrettable" signal to other public servants. The opposition research firm hired former British spy Christopher Steele during the 2016 presidential campaign to compile the dossier. "He is a man of unparalleled integrity, whose honesty and character have never been in question, except by those who don't know him", McRaven wrote.

In a statement released late on Thursday, officials who served under Republican and Democratic officials said they did not necessarily agree with Brennan's harsh criticism of the president but that security authorizations should be based on national security, not politics.

A retired Navy admiral who oversaw the raid that killed Osama bin Laden is telling President Donald Trump that he'd be honored if Trump would yank his security clearance just like he did to former CIA Director John Brennan.

Trump challenged the suggestion that he was trying to silence critics by taking away security clearances.

As Hill Reporter covered yesterday, legal analysts say that a president getting involved in the process of revoking security clearances, especially without going through the usual channels, is utterly unprecedented, and could result in legal battles to determine whether Trump actually has that power.

"If anything, I'm giving him a bigger voice", he said Friday, according to The Washington Post. "Bruce Ohr is a disgrace".

Trump said he got a "tremendous response" for his decision to end Brennan's security clearance.

One of the most iconic musicians of the twentieth century, Franklin said past year that she planned to retire soon from touring. A biography said that Franklin was "overwhelmed by fear and obsessed with control" and was afraid her fans would forget her.

"Mr. Brennan's lying and recent conduct characterized by increasingly frenzied commentary is wholly inconsistent with access to the nations' most closely held secrets", Trump said.

In August 2016, just two days after Brennan briefed Senator Harry Reid and other members on Russian interference in the election, the Nevada senator wrote a letter to then-FBI director James Comey, calling the FBI to investigate Trump's campaign.

Trump contradicted the official White House explanation of why he took the action against Brennan. Ohr had a role in the investigation into Russia's attacks on the 2016 US elections, which Trump has called a 'rigged witch hunt, ' and Trump has threatened revoking security clearances for numerous highly-positioned officials involved in that investigation.

The signees include six former CIA directors, five former deputy directors and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper. "But let him write his report".

Brennan accused Trump of committing treason, which Tucker Carlson previously noted on Fox News is a capital offense.
