United Approach Atletico Over Signing Of Diego Godin

Manchester United made an eleventh hour effort to sign Uruguayan global Diego Godin, but their advances have been rebuffed by the defender.

Manchester United have failed in their approach for Atletico Madrid defender Deigo Godin, according to Sky sources.

According to reports from Sky Sports, United have made contact with Atletico Madrid for the Uruguayan global.

Signing Godin at this late stage would be incredible business by United, but it is also highly hard.

Bouyed by Godin's desire, the Premier League side lodged an offer to his agent and waited to hear back from Atletico's board.

The 32-year-old was reportedly offered a deal worth £8 million-a-year at Old Trafford but Godin turned down the opportunity in favour of a new contract at Atletico.

The Uruguay global eventually made a u-turn and extended his stay at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Godin, who was one of the best defenders at this summer's World Cup as Uruguay reached the quarter finals, could be the answer to Mourinho's prayers.

Leicester's Harry Maguire, Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld and Barcelona's Yerry Mina are among the names that have been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks, but manager Jose Mourinho confirmed he was not expecting any arrivals in the final hours of the transfer deadline.

Manchester United have had a frustrating transfer window so far, having been unable to secure a number of priority targets.
