An Oklahoma family vacationing in New York City spotted a baby floating in the East River near the Brooklyn Bridge while they were sightseeing on Sunday. The medical examiner will work to determine his exact cause of death.

Police said the baby's body showed no signs of trauma.

Authorities say the approximately eight-month-old child was spotted floating in the river near 89 South St. just after 2 p.m.

"She just called me over and said there was a baby in the water". He said the baby had no respiration and showed no pulse.

Police are investigating after a baby boy died shortly after being pulled from the water near South Street Seaport.

Chiropractor Monte Campbell said his wife, Diana Campbell, first noticed the baby.

Saudi Arabia called that "unfortunate, reprehensible, and unacceptable in relations between states". Saudia Airlines has also announced it will suspend flights to and from Canada starting August 13.

Diane Campbell told reporters at the scene - in an interview tweeted by Myles Miller of NY1 - that the baby "wasn't like stiff or anything, so it had to be in the water like around 4 o'clock".

Diana Campbell posted a news story about the incident on her Facebook, adding, "Asking for prayers for this lovely baby boy. someone out there knows what might have happen to him".

Mrs Campbell said she took photos of him in the hope that they would help to find his parents.

"Someone knows that child", she said.

One of them brought the baby to shore to wait for police. The baby was later taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead, police said.
