Pep Guardiola's City became the first Premier League team to reach 100 points last term as they wrote a number of records, winning the league by 19 points.

Klopp is well aware that Liverpool need to eliminate some of the sloppy performances, which left them trailing City in the league last season, and while he is not promising silverware, he expects to see progress.

Liverpool will give skipper Jordan Henderson every chance to be ready for Sunday's Premier League opener against West Ham United despite the midfielder only returning to preseason training on Sunday, manager has Jurgen Klopp said.

"He looks cool and calm on the ball and that's what Klopp wants from his goalkeeper, but they were areas that had to be rectified and it looks like majority have been".

Carragher is among those feeling confident, with additions suggesting that Liverpool will be in the mix for the Premier League crown as positive foundations from 2017-18 are built upon.

Keita didn't seem to do an bad lot wrong but perhaps Klopp saw something we didn't. "Maybe we will do some magic things with the formation on Tuesday". I still remember the Burnley game [at Turf Moor in August 2016] when we lost 2-0 with 80 per cent possession.

"But for tonight, the two available played".

As it stands, the gaffer has only two fit central defenders with both Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan sidelined with hip and hamstring problems respectively. "He probably won't play Tuesday and Sunday will be very hard as well", continued the German, who is known to stick to a very rigorous training strategy. Marko [Grujic] played it, Fabinho played it, so all OK. Adam Lallana, good game, came back. "I think everyone knew from his first interview he spoke very good English so the settling-in period is over for him and I think he is very much part of the squad", Robertson added.

"Now we have to make the last step, we have to bring ourselves into the competition, in a championship mood, really being 100 per cent focused in all the situations".

"We have a few days, I like that".
