Early Monday, it was reported that President Trump has been advised not to tweet about that 2016 Trump Tower meeting with a Russian lawyer involving his son Donald Trump Jr. and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

President Donald Trump has for the first time acknowledged that a June 9, 2016 meeting at Trump Tower was the latter.

The Trump team has argued that Mr Trump Jr ultimately did not receive any damaging information about Mrs Clinton at the meeting.

Trump Jr. has shifted his explanations for his Russian meeting.

His newest tweet is the closest he has come to admitting the meeting's objective was to seek dirt on Clinton from the Russians.

President Trump appeared to change his story about the 2016 meeting when he put out the tweet that Don Jr had met with lawyer to collect information about his political opponent.

Trump lawyer Jay Sekulow told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos on "This Week" Sunday that he has no knowledge of the president's son being a target of Mueller's probe.

Sekulow said on Sunday his erroneous denial about Trump's involvement was a mistake based on "bad information".

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters that the president "certainly didn't dictate" the statement.

The 78-year-old Reagan appointee was more than pleased when prosecutors signaled they could be ready to rest their case by Friday. Gates said he would "chase down signatures", an indication that the letter was fake. "I very much regret it", Laporta responded.

The Trump administration's past attempts to characterize the meeting as part of normal campaign opposition research, as Trump reiterated Sunday, have been struck down; one Democratic campaign consultant told PolitiFact in July 2017 that the argument was "purposeful misdirection". At various times, they defended the meeting by claiming it was exclusively about worldwide adoption, said that they were doing standard opposition research, and even argued that they didn't get anything out of it so how can it be illegal?

Trump's admission through Twitter on Sunday about the objective behind the 2016 Trump Tower meeting was the latest step in the long-evolving story from Trump, Trump Jr. and the President's legal team.

Special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating whether members of Donald Trump's presidential campaign colluded with a Russian effort to influence the election.

On Sunday, Trump tweeted an apparent response to stories by CNN and The Washington Post that said he is anxious about Donald Trump Jr.'s legal exposure following the infamous 2016 meeting. They cited multiple unnamed sources.

"I am comfortable in saying this: if there was evidence, strong evidence of collusion, I guarantee you it would have been leaked by now", the Republican senator said. They purposely cause great division & distrust. Sekulow said of Trump Jr.'s meeting.

"The president should be straight forward with the American people about the threat to our election process that Russia, Putin in particular, is engaged in is on going", Representative Ed Royce, chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee said on CNN's "State of the Union" show.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has denied allegations by US intelligence agencies that his government meddled and Trump denies collusion, describing the Mueller investigation as a political witch hunt that should be shut down.

He called the "Fake" media "very unsafe and sick".
