Journalist tips Tottenham star linked with Man United to leave this summer

Toby Alderweireld is set to tell Spurs he wants a move to Manchester United this summer, otherwise he will run down his contract at White Hart Lane and leave next summer for free.

The Belgium worldwide has not agreed a new deal with the club, with a clause in his contract stating he can leave for £25 million before the last two weeks of next year's summer transfer window if they activate a contract extension.

Leicester's Harry Maguire and Barcelona's Yerry Mina were also on Jose Mourinho's radar, but the manager has always wanted Alderweireld.

Sky Sports are reporting that Tottenham Hotspur is ready to sell Mousa Dembele, Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld this summer.

However, with Thursday's deadline looming, and both United and Spurs struggling to make a breakthrough in the transfer market, it appears that the clubs are close to agreeing a deal; sources close to United this morning claim that the club are "confident" of the transfer being concluded shortly.

Despite his contract situation, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was still determined to get top dollar for the 29-year-old and has reportedly been demanding £75m for Alderweireld's signature - a price United have refused to meet.

Mina was sought amid uncertainty over the Barcelona star's future, having toiled under Ernesto Valverde last term.

However, Goal understands United have pulled the plug on a move for Mina, focussing their attentions on landing Alderweireld instead.

We reported earlier this week that United could seal a deal for Mina for as little as £30m, just seven months after Barca signed him from Brazilian club Palmeiras for £10m.
