This year's back-to-school sales tax holiday is the fourth consecutive one to be held in the state of Ohio.
"This weekend's 3-day tax free holiday, provides a great chance for families to save their hard-earned money", said Rep. Craig Riedel, R-Defiance, in a news release.
As South Carolina prepares for its annual Sales Tax Holiday Weekend, North Carolina goes on its fifth year without the back-to-school shopping option. That's because shoppers went shopping over the weekend in droves.
According to the tax policy nonprofit Tax Foundation, which considers tax holidays political gimmicks that distract from potentially more useful tax relief, the number of states holding the holidays peaked at 19 in 2010.
Several bills have been introduced since 2013 to reinstate the holiday but none has gained traction.
The Department of Revenue said anything considered clothing, by definition, will be sales tax free. Online purchases of qualifying items are also tax-exempt during the sales tax holiday. The local tax break on the Second Amendment Holiday will remain in place.

"I wasn't aware that the sales tax holidays had been removed, but it wouldn't have changed the way I voted", he said.
Arkansas' tax-free weekend will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4 and end at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5.
There is no limit to the overall cost of the goods purchased, as limits apply to specific items, according to the Ohio Department of Taxation.
