Skygazers in Oman watch Blood Moon

While the whole of Asia, including India, and Eastern Africa will be able to watch the entire "blood moon" eclipse, the rare phenomenon will be visible in parts of South-America, Europe, and Australia.

Totality will last about an hour and 43 minutes, and a partial eclipse can be seen before and after that.

The next total lunar eclipse will occur on January 19 2019.

"The Earth doesn't rotate far enough this time around for anyone in North America - the USA and Alaska - to see the eclipse but there are other eclipses that we don't see, there's always a little bit of the Earth that misses out".

The phenomenon occurs when the moon and the sun are at opposite sides of the Earth. Were you fortunate enough to snap some shots of the blood moon too?

"The blood moon is definitely a prophetic sign [of the end times]", one prominent YouTube preacher (whom Live Science prefers not to name) said in a recent video. The website 'Time And Date, ' which keeps track of all the major and minor celestial events observable from here on Earth, will be hosting a live stream so that amateur skywatchers from all over the world can enjoy the eclipse in real time. Apps such as The Photographer's Ephemeris and PhotoPills give detailed information on things such as moonrise times and the position of the moon in the sky based on geographical location.
