Liverpool make £62m bid for Roma goalkeeper Alisson

Liverpool have edged back in front of Chelsea in the race for AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

In 2016, Liverpool lost the League Cup final against Manchester City partly due to a rather characteristic mistake in goal from Simon Mignolet.

Loris Karius was responsible for two howlers that led to Liverpool losing 3-1 to Real Madrid, with Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema taking advantage of two errors by the German.

Now, however, with a world record bid being launched for Allison, it looks as though Klopp will have one of the strongest sides in England at his disposal.

Roma are rubbing their hands at the prospect of a bidding war for their prized keeper, who they value at 75 million euros - a price which Real Madrid, who have also been tracking the player, withdrew their interest.

Liverpool would have both the world's most expensive defender and the world's most expensive goalkeeper should they secure Alisson's services with their most recent bid.

But Jurgen Klopp has identified the position as an immediate priority amid concerns of Karius' displays during the Reds' current pre-season campaign.

It's been suggested by reports in Italy that he has already met with the Liverpool manager as he seizes up what the best next move is for his burgeoning career.

Since the start of 2018, Liverpool have been strongly linked with an approach for the Brazil worldwide due to the inconsistent form of both Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet.
