The fee for Blind, who cost £13.8m when he left Ajax for Old Trafford in 2014, could rise to £18.5m.

Ajax are seemingly ready to pay €21 million to re-sign one of their former stars, although the deal is thought to be for an initial €16 million and the rest will come in the form of add-ons and performance-based payments.

He has been used in midfield, at full-back and in the centre of the United defence in his time at the club, but he become a bit-part player since Jose Mourinho took over as manager in the summer of 2016.

The Red Devils will receive £14 million (€16m/$19m) for the Netherlands global, with add ons possibly bringing the fee up to £18m (€20.5m/$24m).

Blind, should he complete the move, will become the second Premier League player to swap the Premier League for Ajax this summer, following the earlier acquisition of Serbian forward Dusan Tadic from Southampton.

Blind saw just 360 minutes of Premier League action last season and was behind Ashley Young and Luke Shaw in his favoured left-back position. With Ajax he clinched four Dutch league titles.

He said: "I think Daley is a fantastic player".

United's World Cup stars are now on holiday so the majority of the pre-season squad were youngsters meaning there's no real other reason for Blind to miss out.
