Merkel ready to back lower European Union tariffs on U.S. cars

Seehofer and German Chancellor Angela Merkel agreed on Monday that the country will set up "transit centers" on the border with Austria to temporarily house refugees and migrants.

However, differences remain over its implementation.

"It is worth every effort to try to defuse this conflict so that it doesn't turn into a real war, but of course there are two sides to that", Merkel told the German parliament, noting that the head of the EU's executive Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, will soon travel to the U.S.

Mrs Merkel says Greece and Spain are willing to take migrants back. "The soul of Europe is humanity, and if we want to preserve it we can not separate it from need and suffering of refugees", added chancellor, who said that Hungary is assuming an important role in making control of its borders effective. She said Germany was delighted that the English soccer team was still in the World Cup competition in Russian Federation.

Mr Orban said it was essential to remove pull factors that he said were encouraging people in Africa and Asia to migrate. "I am confident that we will reach an agreement with the SPD as well", he said. And there is only one solution: closing off of the borders, and bringing the support over there.

The leaders of Germany's three-way governing coalition agreed on a deal concerning migration and asylum policy after German Chancellor Angela Merkel made a deal with Interior Minister Horst Seehofer to introduce tougher controls at Germany's border with Austria. From there, migrants already registered elsewhere in the European Union and not entitled to settle in Germany could be deported.

"There must be legal possibilities for study and work", she said.

Seehofer predicted that talks with Greece and Italy about these so-called secondary movements of people would be "extremely complex and complicated".

According to an industry source, the USA ambassador to Germany told German vehicle bosses from BMW, Daimler and Volkswagen at a meeting on Wednesday that Trump could abandon such threats if the European Union scrapped duties on US cars imported into the bloc. About three-quarters of the 18,000 people to have entered Germany took alternative routes.

The agency said that 245 Turkish nationals have sought shelter in Norway so far in 2018, including 142 arriving in June.
