In eye of storm, North Koreans sees scant news of Kim's trip

Even so, the summit continues to be a highly sensitive topic in North Korea and it is hard - even more so than usual - to get people to express their opinions about it.

He accepted the invitation from President Halimah Yacob to make a state visit to Singapore in November, in conjunction with the 6th Asean-US Summit and 13th East Asia Summit. Those include terminating America's military presence in South Korea as well as ending the US regional nuclear umbrella, a security arrangement in which Washington promises in-kind retaliation on behalf of close allies if they are attacked with nuclear weapons.

Aboard Air Force One en route to Singapore, Trump tweeted, "I look forward to meeting [Kim] and have a feeling that this one-time opportunity will not be wasted!"

Two additional North Korean planes were also tracked making their way from Pyongyang, thought to be carrying his entourage, food and other supplies for Kim.

Experts believe the North is close to being able to target the entire US mainland with its nuclear-armed missiles, and while there's deep skepticism that Kim will quickly give up those hard-won nukes, there's also some hope that diplomacy can replace the animosity between the USA and the North. He has also raised the possibility of further summits.
