Palestinian nurse killed on Gaza border throws gas grenade

The accusation against former IDF soldier, American-born 24-year-old Rebecca, spread quickly after "Freedom for Gaza" Facebook page shared an old picture of her claiming she had "executed a 21-year-old Palestinian nurse in Gaza", Times of Israel reported.

Pro-Palestinian Israeli activist Jonathan Pollak, who was in Nabi Saleh, told MEE that Tamimi was shot with live fire at least twice including one bullet that hit him in the back of neck and exited while he was 45 metres away from the soldiers.

The IDF spokesperson explained that troops "responded with riot dispersal means".

Palestinians said she repeatedly told the soldiers to leave her land, which is considered occupied under global law. The spokesman said that he was "given medical treatment at the scene", but did not survive.

Village residents told Middle East Eye (MEE) that Israeli soldiers had previously threatened to kill the young man.

Critics of Israel have contrasted her eight-month sentence with the nine months eventually served by an Israeli soldier who shot dead an injured Palestinian attacker as he lay on the ground. "Despite this, the suspect is dead", it said in a tweet, adding that an investigation was ongoing.

Last Friday, as the Great March of Return protests entered their 10th week, a 21-year-old medical worker, Razan Al-Najar, was shot by the IDF while she was helping the wounded.

Witness accounts said Ms. Najjar was shot two or three times in the upper body by Israeli soldiers positioned across the fence as she was seeking to aid an injured protester, about an hour before dusk on Friday.

Israel says many protest participants were members of Hamas, the dominant armed group in the Gaza Strip, and militants trying to breach the fenced frontier and launch attacks.
