The ceremony will take place in front of the Sheriff's Office at noon that day, and Allen will figure largely in the memorial.

On Friday, May 11, a memorial service I attended was held at our State Capitol in Madison at the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial, located on the north side of the capitol square. Sheriff Steve Hoffman and the Marshall County Sheriff's Office serve our community with pride and professionalism. Through the Department of Justice, my Administration will continue to provide our Nation's law enforcement agencies with the resources they need and deserve to keep our citizens safe and our communities secure.

During National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15, give us the opportunity to pause and to honor these courageous public servants, to reflect on their commitment and valor, and to honor the families who grieve their loss.

Indiana State Fraternal Order of Police President Bill Owensby, a black mourning band on his badge, told the officers, "know that, should this tragedy beset you and your family, you will never ever be forgotten".

A memorial ceremony Monday morning recognized law enforcement officers who have lost their lives and honored those serving to protect communities throughout Texas.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions led the tribute in Washington DC, reading the names of the heroic officers killed in the line of duty.

Detective Jason Weiland's name was also added - he was shot and killed along with three other people during a domestic violence incident in the Wausau area. The 2018 numbers through May 9 represent a 9 percent increase in comparison with the same period in 2017.

Since that time, Texas has lost 1,731 officers in the line of duty, the most of any state. This is 75 percent higher than this time past year.

His name will join other officers who have fallen, including Pottawattamie County Deputy Mark Burbridge. It is a special bond between those who have agreed to sacrifice their own safety, their own security and their own family's peace of mind for a calling far greater than one person.
