National Film Awards 2018: Sridevi, Vinod Khanna recognised posthumously

The 65th National Film Awards have been announced by the jury headed by renowned filmmaker Shekhar Kapur.

Vinod Khanna died in Mumbai on April 27 previous year after prolonged illness.

Khanna, one of the biggest stars of Hindi films in '70s and '80s, became the 49th recipient of Dadasaheb Phalke award, Indian cinema's highest honour.

"Great friend, great guy but unfortunately never got the chance to work with him", said Shekhar Kapur at the National Awards.

Last month, he got gold with his 85.94m throw at Patiala during Federation Cup National Championships. Vipin Kassana could only manage a fifth-placed finish with a best throw of 77.87 metres.

SS Rajmouli's "Baahubali-The Conclusion" was named for the best popular film providing wholesome entertainment award which carries a Swarna Kamal and Rs.1.25 lakh each to be conferred to the director and the producer of the film. The Awards are administered by the government's Directorate of Film Festivals. The film won Best Cinematography as well. Even though I had a special appearance in the film, it was personally a very satisfying part for me as an actor.

Jayraj was named the best director and the best adapted screenplay writer for his Malayalam film Bhayanakam. It was also recognised as the best film in Jasari langauge. Best Film on Environment Conservation is Irada and Best Film on Social Issues is Aalorukkam. The best actor recognition went to Riddhi Sen for the Bengali film Nagarkirtan.

Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman swept the best music direction category by winning the best songs for the Tamil film Kaatru Veliyidai and the best background music for the Hindi film Mom.

The list, also includes Best Male Playback Singer for Yesudas for Poy Maranja Kalam from Viswasapoorvam Mansoor while the award for best Child Artist was bagged by Anita Das for 'The Village Rockstar'. In the same category, Marathi Film, Morkhya; Oriya Film, Hello Mirror and Malayalam actor Parvathy, for Take Off were also awarded. Malayalam film director Jayaraj has bagged the best director award. Mhorkya, a Marathi film, was adjudged the best children's film, while the best Marathi film award went to Kaccha Limbu. Ganesh Acharya has won the award for Best Choreography for the song Goli Tu Lath maar in Toilet Ek Prem Katha.
