Buffalo pulls off big upset, knocks off Arizona in NCAA Tournament

It may take a while for that all to sink in.

Junior guard CJ Massinburg, who dropped 19 points and five 3s on Arizona, checked his phone in the locker room and found 20 new direct messages on Twitter.

The Wildcats ended the season under a cloud of suspicion as coach Sean Miller denied allegations that he paid $100,000 to make sure Ayton would enroll at Arizona.

That may be true, but ... wasn't Arizona ranked preseason No. 3? Only those who were in the team's practices would know whether this is true.

"It kind of felt weird", UA freshman guard Brandon Randolph said. We can play with these guys and play hard.

Both teams battled, and Arizona took its largest lead of the second half on another Ristic jumper that put the Cats ahead by 1, 46-45, with 17:23 to go in the game. The University of Buffalo Bulls knocked off the 4-seed University of Arizona Wildcats in convincing fashion!

It is curious that a season that included two Pacific-12 Conference championships would prompt such a reconsideration of the state of the Wildcats. Despite being one of the country's most efficient offenses all season, thanks in large part to Ayton's dominance inside and Allonzo Trier's overall consistency, the Wildcats defense often wavered. They shot 36.9 percent in 35 games, and that included a 37.7 percent clip in 18 conference games. When Buffalo added some defensive pressure that the Wildcats couldn't handle, it was all but over with nine minutes left, when big man Nick Perkins made a layup to give the Bulls a 72-48 lead.

They have been kept apart in the quarterfinals, which take place this weekend and see United with the most desirable draw. He can not rely on much backing from fans who have never given him affection.

The Buffalo Bulls returned to the NCAA Tournament following a one-year hiatus.

Instead, Buffalo will now have the chance to advance to the Sweet 16 when they face the No. 5 seed Kentucky Saturday. Mikal Bridges had 13 points for the Wildcats, who shot 75 percent while building a 69-37 near the midway mark of the second half. I'm expecting this one to have a faster tempo than the UK-Davidson matchup, and that should play to the Cats' liking. I'm pretty sure they're going to win. They're not gonna do that. If that doesn't adequately point out the flaws in his leadership I don't know what will. "So they were hesitant to pass me the ball over the top, they were hesitating to pass me the ball down low". Keita Bates-Diop had 24 points and 12 rebounds for OSU, which scored 16 straight points midway through the second half to go up by 13. But he said there was no such problem this time, saying he was "super ready".

The Pac-12 entered the tournament with one boast: the only conference to get a team to the Elite Eight in each of the last four seasons.

Miller said the Wildcats "worked hard to be ready for this game".

But Ayton also now leaves his college career with an empty feeling.

It's never good when more schools are the subject of FBI investigations (two, Arizona, USC) than in the Round of 32 (none).
