Denver chose to bypass incumbents Trevor Siemian, Brock Osweiler and Paxton Lynch and go for Keenum, who can't sign until Wednesday.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Vikings quarterback Case Keenum intends to sign with Denver when National Football League free agency opens on Wednesday. He's played the complete schedule twice, missed the entire 2014 season and was limited to two games with the Vikings in 2017. That led to a big payday for a journeyman who had started eight games for the Houston Texans in 2013 and nine games for the Los Angeles Rams in 2016 before posting an 11-3 regular-season record as the Vikings' starter in 2017.
John Elway is looking to free agency for his fix at quarterback following a season in which all three of his drafted QBs fell flat in Denver. Before last season, Keenum had 24 touchdown passes and 20 interceptions in the NFL.
Case Keenum to Broncos could alter QB market in Jets' favor
With Denver no longer hunting for the quarterback, the makeup of the upcoming 2018 National Football League draft also changes. He guided Minnesota to the NFC championship game after replacing an injured Sam Bradford last season.
"Will only confirm they'll get the first visit", McCartney told the Pioneer Press.
"I still think we're not too far away, " Elway said. Now they will count on Keenum to get them back into the playoffs and, they hope, be in the mix to advance deep into the postseason. "Obviously, we have to get better at that (quarterback) position". That doesn't all go on the players.
There are sure to be more dominoes to fall in the quarterback free-agent frenzy that will officially begin on Wednesday. There were some things we should have done, that we should have done differently that we didn't do. It is believed that Keenum's contract will be relatively short-term, according to the person with knowledge of the situation.
