Other first round games include Temple at Penn State, Rider at Oregon, Harvard at Marquette, Nebraska at Mississippi State, Vermont at Middle Tennessee, Northern Kentucky at Louisville, Boston College at Western Kentucky, BYU at Stanford, FGCU at Oklahoma State, Boise State at Washington, Louisiana at LSU, UC Davis at Utah.

"If all that matters is the quality of your best win or two on your schedule, then we shouldn't even play and just set the field in December after the out-of-conference (action) was complete", Enfield said.

The University of Notre Dame men's basketball team, confirmed by the 2018 NCAA Championship selection committee as the the final team eliminated from consideration for the NCAA tournament, has been designated as one of four number-one seeds in the 2018 National Invitation Tournament.

The Irish made a late push to get into the tournament field, fueled mainly by the return of senior forward Bonzie Colson, who had missed 15 games during conference play due to a fractured left foot.

With Colson leading the way, Notre Dame beat Pittsburgh and Viriginia Tech in the ACC Tournament before running out of gas against Duke, which earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The Irish played 15 games without Colson after the preseason All-American suffered a left foot fracture December 29.

In October, NBC news reported that Tillerson called the president a "moron", something Tillerson never actually denied. Tillerson was also often out of step with Trump on foreign policy, most notably with issues involving North Korea.

The Irish finished the season with a 20-14 overall record, finishing 12th in the ACC with an 8-10 record. He connected on 29.1 percent of his 3-pointers and 76.8 percent of his free throws. His senior class won a school-record 98 games.

"We're very disappointed. Our players deserve to be in the NCAA Tournament", Enfield said.

Without Colson, the Irish went 6-9, and they were 1-4 without him and Farrell. ACC rival Syracuse got in ahead of Notre Dame. The Irish's last NIT appearance came in 2009, when they reached the semifinals.

Baylor, St. Mary's and Southern California were among the first four out, while UCLA, St. Bonaventure and Arizona State joined Syracuse as the last four in. With that being said, the Pirates have been one of the hottest teams since the New Year.

Now the question will be whether Colson gets selected at the NBA Draft on June 21.
