Hearthstone: 6 new cards from the new 'Witchwood' expansion

This morning, the developer released a trailer - well, more like a Blair Witch Project parody - announcing its latest expansion to the game, The Witchwood, with a release date of sometime in mid-April, with three free packs and a free class legendary to all players.

Here's a preview of seven new cards coming to the expansion.

Deceptively simple in design but epically engaging, Hearthstone will be instantly accessible to players regardless of their familiarity with Warcraft or collectible card games.

Much like the single-player mode Dungeon Run from the 2017 Hearthstone expansion Kobolds & Catacombs, Monster Hunt will pit players against a series of bosses and reward players with select groupings of cards to further build your Monster Hunt deck.

A total of 135 new cards are being added in the upcoming expansion, and some will carry the new Echo keyword.

"Dark magic has twisted the creatures of the forest and set them loose upon the Gilnean capital in Azeroth, but King Genn Greymane and his lycanthropic subjects won't make for easy prey", Blizzard said in an announcement. The citizens of this proud kingdom, who can shapeshift into ferocious wolf-beasts known as worgen, are bringing the fight to The Witchwood with tooth and claw-and soon, Hearthstone players will join the pack and help them face down the horrors within.

The "Start of Game" mechanic, as the revealed cards indicate, will be activated based to the mana cost of the cards in your deck (whether they are all odd or even numbered) and if the terms are met a specific effect will be activated. Echo, allows you to play as many copies of that card as you want during a turn, meaning if you had 9 mana, you could play three copies of Phantom Militia.

The new single-player mode is Monster Hunt.

The leaders of Gilneas are finalizing preparations for these expeditions, and will share more details in the weeks to come. Similarly, Genn Greymane is a 6 mana, 6/5 minion that reduces your hero power's cost to one crystal if your deck has nothing but cards with an even mana cost.

Elsewhere, Worgen cards swap attack and health each turn they're in your hand, so you can play them at different times for different results. The expansion is available for pre-purchase now, and those who take part will earn 20 packs, as well as an "In a Dark Wood" card. And there will be four new heroes to lead the fight, each with their own hero power and "cards that create completely new playstyles and strategies". This one-time-only bundle is available on any platform for $49.99 (one purchase per account).
