NBC's Katie Couric mocked for comments about Dutch speed skating team

This follows Couric saying that the Dutch are good at speed skating because they skate to work. "So for as long as those canals have existed, the Dutch have skated on them to get from place to place, to each other, and also to have fun", Couric told the audience on Friday evening.

The Dutch embassy even Tweeted at Couric and sent her an article about the advancement in transportation that is happening in the Netherlands.

As can be imagined, these comments led to a flood of indignant social media responses from people in the Netherlands, as well as a number of memes - and an invitation from the Dutch embassy extended to Couric.

Even the Netherlands Embassy in the US joined in dispelling the statement, eliciting the response from Couric. It's more used as a form of enjoyment and for sporting events. And in this case with Couric's comments, twitter went all in on the side of the Dutchmen, heavily mocking Couric.

"You talked too much through the entire opening presentation!"

Joshua Cooper Ramo, another NBC employee, was sacked after praising Japan's role in South Korea's economic development while covering the Pyeongchang Olympic Games, reported Fox News. After the network fired Ramo, NBC apologized to its host country for airing potential damaging misinformation.

The NBC presenter claimed during the opening ceremony of the Pyeongchang Olympics that the success of speed skaters from Holland came because they use frozen canals as a means of transportation. As The Guardian notes, the country has over the years built a dedicated cultural and athletic infrastructure for producing speed skating superstars. The comedian not only defended Aziz Ansari from his sexual misconduct allegations but also revealed she was "flat-out raped" as a teenager.

People aren't really sure where she came up with that.
