Rory McIlroy has a heart irregularity

"Hey, I was planning on doing that anyway", he said.

It sounds as though McIlroy's heart problem can be managed, which is good news for both Rory and fans of golf; the crop of current competitors at the top of the sport is deeper than it's ever been, and McIlroy is a big part of that.

"The rib's fine, no problems whatsoever - I had an MRI scan on my thoracic spine and all was OK", McIlroy told the Telegraph Friday.

McIlroy, 28, missed a large portion of the 2017 season with a rib injury and as a result slipped from No 2 in the world rankings to No 11 and failed to win a title.

"Maybe before, I had to win from the front. I just crave to be in that position again". I don't fear any of them.

"Severely overcrowded": 38 on trolleys in Mullingar Hospital
Hospitalised cases of influenza and influenza-associated outbreaks in residential care facilities have also increased. Dr Foran said the challenge for the hospital has been to find isolation beds to treat patients with the flu.

"To be honest, I just went through the motions for the last few months past year", McIlroy said. I've beaten them before. "I need to get back on that track and this year my goals are to add to my major tally and get back to World No. 1, winning more times than anyone else".

The 28-year-old from Northern Ireland, lacking only a victory at the Masters to complete a career Grand Slam, has bought the former home of South African four-time major victor Ernie Els at the nearby Bear's Club. "I knew within myself that I couldn't compete at the end of last season because I hadn't done the work beforehand, and that's because I hadn't been fit enough and if you can't practice, you can't compete".

The Irish golf champ, who will return to action next week at the Adu Dhabi Championship, has taken the past four months off to deal with a rib injury. "Let's just say that between now and when I signed off previous year, I feel way more optimistic, focused, motivated, purposeful".

After failing to make it to the Tour Championship, McIlroy played twice more in Europe before shutting it down in early October to regroup.
