Indian Google techie held for molesting US woman at Delhi hotel


A Non-Resident Indian (NRI) working as a contractor with a global IT firm was arrested on Thursday for allegedly molesting a 52-year-old American woman in a room at Taj Diplomatic Enclave hotel on Monday.

Police said the incident took place on January 8 at around 10 pm, when the accused, Anmol Singh Kharbanda, met and struck up a conversation with the 52-year-old woman at the luxury hotel's bar. She alleged that he offered her laced drinks and tried to grope her, the police said. In her complaint, she alleged that after having drinks, Kharbanda grabbed her and molested her.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) BK Singh, the woman had checked into the hotel on January 6 where she befriended the accused.

After her return from Jaipur, she complained against Kharbanda to the Chanakyapuri police station and hotel security. The statement was recorded before the City Magistrate under Section 164 of CrPC. Police officers say that the accused was in Delhi on business and was staying in a room on the eight floor of the hotel. She told cops she had come to Delhi for a business project and to meet some associates in Gurgaon. Following the complaint by the victim, Kharbanda was arrested from the hotel after being interrogated. The woman, too, was in the country for work, police said. "We are aware of this incident". At the time of the incident, he had drinks with the woman in his room no 805. The spokesperson added that she lodged a complaint with help from the staff.
