Former South Carolina great Marcus Lattimore joining staff

After serving as a defensive coach with coordinating stints aplenty, Muschamp earned his first head coaching gig with the Florida Gators in 2011.

"Two short years ago we were coming off three wins".

Krantz is a 2009 graduate of the University of Northern Colorado with a degree where he began his career as a student assistant for the defense from 2007-08 before becoming the linebackers coach at his alma mater from 2009-10. Last season, Muschamp was the league's 11th highest paid coach with a salary of $3 million dollars.

"There's no better Gamecock than Marcus Lattimore", Muschamp said in a release. He returned for his junior year and had some promising performances before he suffered an even more disastrous injury to his other knee.

Way back in 2010, Lattimore burst onto the scene by rushing for 1,197 yards and 17 touchdowns as a freshman for SC.

"No one will relate to our players about dealing with success and facing adversity more than Marcus. He will be a great addition to our program".

Lattimore, who coached the last two years at nearby Heathwood Hall, became a SC legend nearly immediately upon arrival in 2010. After suffering multiple knee injuries in college, including a gruesome injury his junior year at SC that tore every ligament in his right knee and required surgery by specialist Dr. James Andrews, Baalke took a gamble on Lattimore in the fourth round.

He is married to the former Miranda Bailey.
