Illini players preview Iowa game

Who is healthy enough to play Thursday remains to be seen, but Underwood figures IL can't afford to be short-handed against an Iowa team that he says is better than its record would indicate.

Illinois Fighting Illini freshman guard Trent Frazier already had a monster game on Thursday night against the Iowa Hawkeyes even before he buried a game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime. "I honestly don't know", he said, shaking his head.

"The critical thing was (Ryan) Kreiner's performance that allowed (Luka) to be fresh at that time of the game", said McCaffery.

An Illini team that had shot 24.7 percent from 3-point range in four Big Ten games was suddenly hot, making 9 of 15 3s in the first half.

It's Tyler Cook's 5th double-double of his Iowa career. Forward Tyler Cook leads with 14.7 points per game while guards Isaiah Moss and Jordan Bohannon each put up 12.1.

No longer winless in the Big Ten, Iowa needed a dominant second-half offensive effort and a healthy dose of free throws and rebounding to take down IL in overtime. "Everything is earned. You have to go take it".

"It's been a challenging week", said coach Brad Underwood, who has been one of the few members of the team that hasn't been treated by team doctors.

F Kipper Nichols R-So. "It's either we play the first half great or second half great". "For 30 minutes, 32 minutes of the game, we're playing pretty well. They are probably as big as any team in the league, especially on the perimeter".

-Bohannon and Cook were named to the Big Ten all-freshman team past year, and you expect them to fill the stat sheet when things are going well.

The Iowa and IL men's basketball programs both seek their first Big Ten victory this season in a pivotal game at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT at State Farm Center in Champaign, Ill.

"If I could control if the ball goes in or not, I could write the book and have all the answers".

IL forced overtime on a heroic one-handed floater by freshman Trent Frazier as time expired, but the Hawkeyes won the extra period 14-7 for their first conference win of the year. "I just need to do a better job at halftime, find a way somehow". That, Underwood said, is the definition of inconsistency. They fouled out three IL players, including leading scorer Leron Black.

Tonight's game will tip off at 7 p.m. and the game can be seen on Fox Sports 1.

The Illini dropped to 10-8 and 0-5 in the league.

Rankings - neither team is rated in the latest Associated Press Poll.
