Fusion GPS Head Defends Trump Dossier in Senate Interview Transcript

In what many will be dismissed by Democrats as an attempt by Republicans to divert attention from the investigation into alleged collusion between Donald Trump's campaign and Russian Federation, the chairman and a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee alleged Mr Steele was not truthful to federal authorities about his s with reporters.

She released the transcript of Glenn Simpson's interview against the objections of the committee's Republican chairman Chuck Grassley.

Republicans have tried to make the case that the dossier and subsequent investigation into the Trump campaign's alleged collusion with Russian Federation were both politically motivated.

In a 312-page transcript of Simpson's August 2017 interview with the Senate Judiciary Committee, Simpson's attorney also said it was risky to discuss the dossier's sources because its public release a year ago had already led to murder.

Democrats - and even some Republicans - were alarmed last week when Grassley made a criminal referral to the Justice Department, suggesting it investigate Steele for possibly lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. "That date according to The New York Times, they were hired to do opposition research on Trump during the Republican primaries by the Washington Free Beacon, which is a conservative website".

The threat of a lawsuit by Trump (my, what a novel idea for him!) against Fusion GPS is designed exclusively to intimidate anyone who might want to corroborate the claims in the Steele Dossier, but it is the kind of threat that can be a double-edged sword as a lawsuit would open Trump up for discovery, a process aimed at demonstrating credibility for the accusations of a lawsuit, but which could readily blow back in Trump's face.

Two Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee are pushing Sen.

He noted that he'd told Congress about dubious Russian involvement in Trump construction projects in Toronto, Florida, Manhattan, and Panama, in arrangements that he said often raised questions about money-laundering.

Because of the chemical fire, ISP and responders made a decision to let the fire burn out instead of putting water on it. Wheeles said crews were concerned that adding water could cause a reaction that could make the situation worse.

Mr Trump has repeatedly denied there was any collusion between his campaign and Russian officials.

Steele and Fusion GPS arranged for the material to pass into the hands of Sen.

"The fact that Sneaky Dianne Feinstein, who has on numerous occasions stated that collusion between Trump/Russia has not been found, would release testimony in such an underhanded and possibly illegal way, totally without authorization, is a disgrace", Trump tweeted.

Defending the release of the transcript on Tuesday, Feinstein said it was necessary in order to combat false information circulating about the Simpson interview.

The adviser pleaded guilty past year to lying to investigators about his contacts with Russia-linked figures, and is believed to be cooperating in the probe of special counsel Robert Mueller. They have also called for the release of the transcripts. Following his lead, several GOP-led committees are now investigating whether the dossier formed the basis for the FBI's initial investigations.

Feinstein said Americans deserve to see what Simpson said.

Sen. Chris Murphy said Wednesday that Sen. "Their posture toward Mr. Trump was, we now know even more comprehensively than we did in January 2017, shaped by (ex-British intelligence agent Christopher) Steele's report".
