Netflix has found their upcoming star for their version of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, and she just so happens to be someone many people out there are familiar with. However, it won't be the Sabrina audiences may expect - a.k.a. this isn't Melissa Joan Hart's version.
Fans, naturally, speculated for months about who would step into Sabrina Spellman's shoes; at one point, Selena Gomez's name was even thrown into the mix. However, the Sabrina show has since moved to Netflix, where it was confirmed for a 20-episode, two-season order, and development continued. The comics update the Sabrina the Teenage Witch character into darker, more horror-themed stories.
"We're all such huge fans of Kiernan's work that when we started talking about who this new incarnation of Sabrina could be, her name was on everyone's wish list." said executive producer and Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

Looks like the show has even more going for it with the news that Mad Men alumni Kiernan Shipka has been cast as the title role. Netflix describes the series akin to Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist, and will focus on Sabrina's struggle with her duality as half-witch, half-mortal - while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the human world. Riverdale's executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who will also be producing the Sabrina reboot, said that Kiernan was the flawless choice for their new witch.
