It's a great phone, but the device has been labeled as "old" since the launch of the OnePlus 5T, which has a bezel-less display and a new Face Unlock feature. Well, even though there's no information on when the Face Unlock would make its way to the OnePlus 5, it's good to see OnePlus listening to its customers and deciding to include a feature which is now only available on the OnePlus 5T. The company rolled out Android 8.0 Oreo-based OxygenOS 5 for the OnePlus 5 hours before Christmas. That's especially true if you own the original OnePlus 5 smartphone-which came out all of five months before the OnePlus 5T and lacks the latter's Face Unlock feature. The owners of older OnePlus models had asked the company to bring Face Unlock to older models as well. Well, that's because it hasn't been included in this update. We can expect a software update on the OnePlus 5 to enable the forward-facing camera to recognize faces and let users past their smartphone's lock screen respectively.
It looks like the update with Face Unlock feature is a bit far from happening. Well, faster than Face ID on Apple's iPhone X. However, it's certainly not as secure as the Face ID, which is one of the reasons why it can not be used for payment authorization.
If you don't have it yet on your phone, chances are you'll still get it in the next few days.
