UN Security Council to Reexamine Legality of US Recognition of Jerusalem

"No vote or debate will change the clear reality that Jerusalem has and always will be the capital of Israel".

After the US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital on Dec.6, Palestinian officials including President Mahmoud Abbas canceled their meetings with Pence.

"The government has to be able to push the OIC to issue a joint statement on the withdrawal of the U.S. support for Israel", she said.

The leaked Egyptian-drafted resolution obtained by Al Jazeera, however, does not mention the United States by name, saying it "deeply regrets recent decisions regarding the status of Jerusalem".

Thousands of mourners attended the funeral of a wheelchair-bound Palestinian man shot during clashes with Israeli troops. "China has voiced its support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital", the article said. He said he lost his legs in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza in 2008.

Friday's deaths brought to eight the number of Palestinians killed in violence or air strikes since Trump's Jerusalem move, and hundreds have been wounded.

"I absolutely refuse to officially welcome the American Vice President Mr. Mike Pence at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and I will not be physically in church during his visit", Adeep Joudeh, the custodian of the church, stated in a letter to Israel's Channel 2 News on Wednesday, as reported by Common Dreams. "We will be ready when the Palestinians are ready to re-engage".

He finished his career with 1,286 carries for 5,490 yards and 477 receptions for 3,598 yards. He was also part of the Saints team that won Super Bowl XLIV.

"We have supported Palestine and Jerusalem (al-Quds) on all global platforms and we will continue to do so", he added.

Backed by Muslim countries, the Palestinians are expected to turn to the UN General Assembly to adopt a resolution rejecting the USA decision, if, as expected, the measure is vetoed by the United States at the council.

Abbas's diplomatic adviser, Majdi Khaldi, stated on Saturday that the meeting between the PA president and Pence was canceled "because the United States has crossed red lines" on Jerusalem.

"This American position proves once again that the current U.S. administration is completely out of the peace process", he added.

"We can not envision any situation under which the Western Wall would not be part of Israel". Another official later added by email, "We note that we can not imagine Israel would sign a peace agreement that didn't include the Western Wall".

The Western Wall is the holiest site where Jews are permitted to pray, at the foot of the Haram al-Sharif compound housing the Al-Aqsa mosque and the golden-topped Dome of the Rock, the third holiest site in Islam.
