Salvation Army adds Christmas sign-up

The bells are ringing, but the Salvation Army's red kettles locally haven't collected as much jingle as officials of the charity had hoped.

The Angel Tree program has a goal of providing gifts for 850 children this year, and the deadline to contribute is December 17, DeGregorio said.

Major Abe Tamayo said there could be some significant consequences if the organization doesn't meet its goal.

"We are so thankful for the many individuals and businesses who support The Salvation Army throughout the year and who have given to this year's Christmas Campaign".

Iraq demands US backtrack on Jerusalem

The group said with Christmas just three weeks away, the demand for Christmas Assistance for low-income families is higher than in years past.

There are a number of ways to give to the Salvation Army.

For the 12th straight year, Red Wings Executive Vice President and General Manager Ken Holland will serve as the Honorary Chairman of the 2017 Red Kettle Campaign. It also is accepting donations at donate.salvationarmyusa.org and in person at 2901 N. Clinton St.
