York Region players chosen for Team Canada selection camp

Eighteen forwards, 10 defencemen and four goals will take to the December 12-15 at the Meridian Centre in St. Catharines, Ont., before Hockey Canada trims the roster to 23 players ahead of this year's tournament to be held in Buffalo from December 25 to January 5.

The final rosters for both Canada East and Canada West have been released, and both teams feature a few returning faces. It will feature three games, including two matches against a team of U Sports (formerly CIS) all-stars on December 13 and 14, and a final match against Denmark on December 15.

As the World Junior A Challenge nears, both teams have completed their tryout camps and have selected 22 players each from across the country. "We couldn't be more excited for our staff and players to get together in St. Catharines and begin the journey".

The tournament is being held in Buffalo this year, and will kick off on Boxing Day with Canada taking on Finland. Games will be played at KeyBank Center, home of the NHL's Sabres and the nearby HarborCenter. Also in Group A are the United States, Slovakia and Denmark.

Group B consists of Russia, Sweden, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Belarus.

Both Canada East and West will hit the ice Sunday, Dec. 10, with Canada West playing Czech Republic at 3:30 p.m. and Canada East playing Russian Federation at 7:30 p.m.at the Rath-Eastlink Community Centre.

In seven games in last year's tournament, Fabbro had one assist.
