The PlayStation 3 sold 83.3m units in life time, the PSX sold 102.49m units and the PS2, the best-selling console of all time, sold 155m.
The Sony PS4 1TB was on sale for $199 during Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales events.
And while the PlayStation 4 just reached 5.5 million in Japanese sales, it took Sony's console four years to reach that mark. But while the Xbox One occupies the second-largest piece of the market with somewhere around 30 million or so units sold, it's the Nintendo Switch that Sony, like most everyone else in the industry, is taking notice of as of late.
The PlayStation 4 has hit another major sales milestone, with Sony confirming its flagship console has sold through more than 70.6 million units worldwide as of December 3.

Morgan Stanley maintained it with "Equalwt/In-Line" rating and GBX 1120 target in Tuesday, March 1 report. Canaccord Genuity maintained the shares of SAGA in report on Wednesday, November 4 with "Buy" rating.
The company also announced this morning that it has sold more than 617.8 million copies of PS4 games at retail and digitally, worldwide as of December 3rd. More than 12.2 million games have been sold for PS VR. "I can not thank our fans and partners enough".
This represents sales of around 4 years out from the system's November 15, 2013 launch, keeping the PS4 roughly in line with the sales of the PlayStation 2. PS VR, which launched previous year, continues to sell well, especially following great deals over Black Friday. "We will continue to work closely with partners to maintain this momentum and remain steadfast in making PS4 the best place to play", House said.
Going into 2018, Sony will continue to build on it's 2017 momentum with a slew of exclusive titles. Sony pointed out strong third-party titles such as Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, Monster Hunter: World, and Yakuza Kiwami 2.
