Steve Clifford out indefinitely with health issues, Stephen Silas to take over

The Charlotte Hornets announced Wednesday that Steve Clifford would be away from the team "for the immediate future" for health-related reasons.

The team did not specify the issue Clifford is dealing with and said there is no timetable for his return. Silas, who served as a scout and an assistant for Charlotte from 1999-2002, re-joined the franchise in 2010. Associate head coach Stephen Silas will take over head coaching duties in his absence.

"Today's been a lot of study", Silas said before Monday's game tipped off, according to Josh Robbins of The Orlando Sentinel. Out of respect for his privacy, the organization did not comment further on his condition.

The action propelled a directive by the Inspector-General of Police to call for the reorganisation of the police unit. He asked the Ad-hoc Committee on National Security to investigate activities of SARS and report back to plenary.

Say what you will about the team, but he's been a good ambassador and is a cultural fit in Charlotte.

Silas typically shares the scouting for the other 29 teams around the league with our assistant coaches, something that SB Nation's Paul Flannery witnessed when he spent a day with the assistant coach.

Charlotte has a record of 9-13 this season.
