Quake in India's Uttarakhand, tremors felt in Delhi

Mild tremors were also felt in Dehradun, Patiala and Chandigarh today.

Strong tremors were felt in Delhi and the National Capital Region this evening after a 5.5 magnitude quake struck Uttarakhand.

IMD's preliminary natural disaster report said the epicentre in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said the moderate intensity quake originated in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district at a depth of 30 kilometres. It occurred at around 8.45 pm. There is no report of any loss of life or property as of now.

Tremors were also felt in Tamil Nadu's Chennai and Uttarakhand's Chamoli, indicating that the seismic event occured pan-India. Twitter is abuzz with reactions from many people in the national capital.
