Sikh body slams Dyal Singh move

"Notification was issued that Executive Council approved Dyal Singh evening college becoming a full-fledged day college".

Senior Congress leader and former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday said that decision to rename Dyal Singh College (Evening) as "Vande Mataram Mahavidyalaya" was not a commendable move.

He has alleged that the governing body violated the norms of the 1976 transfer deed between the Dyal Singh Trust and the Delhi University by renaming the college.

According to the Newspaper, . "Then we had to give it a new and inspiring name, we decided it should be "Vande Mataram Mahavidyalaya", Amitabh Sinha, chairman of college's governing body.

While, right wing student organization Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad said that nobody should have any problem in renaming of the college as it is renamed after the India's national song.

Some of the teachers and students had been dissatisfied with the proposal that the new regular shift college would continue to function in the same campus. We use around 27 rooms of the morning college when they are not being used by them. That would have benefitted the students also.
