NEW DELHI: A 31-year-old undertrial was shot dead inside the Rohini court complex on Monday morning by a teenaged assailant who fired at him thrice before putting down his country-made pistol and surrendering.The victim, Vinod, who was brought to the court to appear in a cheating case, was shot in the stomach, neck and chest. "The incident happened near the canteen area while he was being escorted and the shooter, who was arrested at the spot, is suspected to have been dressed as a litigant". There have been previous instances of firing inside court premises in Delhi.

The accused said that he was hired by someone else to murder the prisoner.

"After attending trial in court number 113 when Vinod was coming back with the police force, Abdul Khan shot him on his head".

In 2015, three juveniles barged into a courtroom at Karkardooma court complex and shot at an undertrial, injuring him critically and leaving a constable in his security dead on the spot. It is also being probed how the man managed to sneak into the court premises with the weapon, the DCP said. The businessman had then lodged a case against Vinod in Rohini (South) police station.

"He was in judicial custody from last 14 days and during the investigation, it was revealed that he had no other criminal involvements. He is being questioned", the officer said. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead, reported NDTV. "The incident created chaos in the court and everyone started running here and there". Vinod is the resident of E Block Mangol Pur.

In-charge of police post at the court SI Narender has been placed under suspension, while Prashant Vihar SHO has been sent to district lines pending further inquiry. Khan is married and has a kid, said police.
