Three properties of Dawood Ibrahim up for auction in Mumbai today

A hotel and a guest house are among three properties of most-wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim in south Mumbai to be auctioned today for Rs 11.58 crore. This is the second time in nearly two years the ministry is trying to auction Dawood Ibrahim's properites which include Hotel Raounaq Afroz-also known as Delhi Zaika- and two residential premises, Shabnam guest house and six rooms in Damarwala builidng, located on the Pakmodia street. The three properties include a two-storied building, Shabnam Guest House; six flats in Damarwala building; and a restaurant Rounaq Afroz.

The three properties, which are described as decrepit and unfit for living, would be refurbished, said the Saifee Trust in a statement.

The Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust was the highest bidder for the three properties, the official said.

The Reserve price now kept for the property Rs 1 crore 55 lakh 76 thousand.

In the advertisement, the government listed five properties, of which two belong to the underworld don. Dawood's mother Aminabi used to stay at Damarwala building even after he and his brothers fled the country. Even now, security remains a major concern.

Dawood Ibrahim is the mastermind of the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts in which 257 were killed.

A senior official from the Revenue Department, who did not wish to be named, said, "The acquisition and auction of the properties have always been hard tasks". This time Authorities have done the bidding in the phased manner.

A private firm was appointed in December 2015 to auction seven properties including four agricultural plots in Daman, Hotel Raunak Afroz, tenancy rights on a flat in Mahavir Building in Matunga. Chakrapani had also expressed his eagerness to acquire the Rounaq Afroz - to build a public toilet in the area under the Prime Minister's Swachh Bharat Mission.
