Videos of Saturday's protest have since gone viral on the social media.
Abuja （Sundiata Post）- As Anambra gubernatorial election draws closer, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, on Sunday, warned members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) to keep off the state.
The election takes place in four days time. Abari expressed optimism that the election will not only hold as scheduled but will be without security failures. "We are not running around for the zoo", the members sang as they marched around the commercial town, abutting the River Niger on Friday.
The group had also claimed to declare Biafra Republic in all the South-East states and beyond, in its secession agenda.
"We demand from them a credible poll, to make sure that every vote counts and for the electorate to be the ultimate decider of who wins the election", it said.
"We are fully aware that all soldiers and police drafted into Anambra State have been brought ostensibly to facilitate the rigging of the election and to kill as many people as possible".
The group warned Anambra people that the same politicians who were urging them to go ahead and cast their votes were the same people that conspired with Aso Rock cabal to bring death to the southeast through Operation Python Dance II. Not all members of the community however believe that secession is the best option so the way the security forces operate will have consequences for which side increases its support.
Tesco's £3.7bn Booker takeover deal backed by watchdog
The Competition and Markets Authority has provisionally cleared Tesco's £3.7 billion merger with the cash-and-carry group Booker. The CMA provisionally concluded that the level of competition in the grocery wholesale and retail markets would be sufficient.
According to Ogene, "Anambra people have agreed that there will be election in the state".
"Sequel to forthcoming governorship election, I hereby inform the general public that the election petition tribunal for governorship in Anambra has been constituted".
IPOB said, "Wild, unfounded and foolish accusations about IPOB intending to disrupt the polls on Saturday as peddled by politicians, is not only baseless but completely unfounded". One of the members who gave his name as Ogbonnaya said that the reason the people of Biafra should not vote was because the system was skewed in favour of the North, stressing that voting will change nothing.
"They are to provide adequate security for the electorate, INEC officials, election materials, election observers and other individuals and bodies that have statutory roles in the conduct of the election, at the polling booths, collation centers, and INEC offices in Anambra State throughout the period of the election", stated the Police.
Therefore, the report noted that to make the election possible, voter education becomes extremely important on the part of the political parties and INEC. "Armed Police detachments on patrol vehicles are going to patrol the streets and other locations throughout the state to prevent crime and intervene to quell any violence that may occur during the election", the statement further said.
"The theory of anti-election rigging grandly holds that the larger the voters' turnout, the slimmer the chances to rig, but the lower the voters' turnout, the bigger the chances to rig".
