At 9 a.m., the Mount Zion Original Free Will Baptist Church of Nashville will offer a free Veterans Day Family Breakfast for area veterans, law enforcement, first responders, firefighters and their families.

The 2017 Veterans Day Parade is a tribute to honor all men and women who've served in the military.

Step-off is at 10 a.m. November 11.

This year's Honorary Grand Marshal is Wini Carter.

For his service, he received the Combat Infantryman's Badge and a Bronze Star, as well as the Purple Heart for wounds received in enemy action. The procession goes east on South Street, turns north on Atlantic Avenue and heads to Harding Street, ending at Houghton Park, where Vets Fest - and the new Veterans Valor Plaza - is located. He ended the war as his battalion's sergeant major. In retirement, Houston published "Black Warriors: The Buffalo Soldiers of World War II", a book based on his combat activities in Italy. According to the parade's website, it was founded in 1974 by Vernon E. Ross, proprietor of Ross Hollywood Funeral Chapel, to honor all veterans, past and present, living and deceased.

At 71 she returned to school and at 78 received a bachelor's degree in English from Cal State Dominguez.

Because of Vernon's dedication to veterans and the circumstances surrounding his death, Ross Hollywood Funeral Chapel has continued hosting the Veterans Day Parade every year.

At 7 p.m., the Luncheon Pilot Club will sponsor luminaries at Jack Laughery Park in honor of all veterans.
