Alonso will line up 18th on the grid in today's Mexico Grand Prix after the latest round of Honda engine changes.
Alonso said achieving the best sector two time in Q1 was a welcome boost for the team, given the series of penalties it has encountered in recent races.
Fernando Alonso repeated his assertion that McLaren has the best auto design in Formula One after seeing how it fared during its brief appearance in qualifying for the Mexican Grand Prix.
"Unfortunately I think we will have to change the engine again", double Formula One world champion Alonso told reporters at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit on Thursday.
Lee to Morgan Jr. with 14 seconds left sends Nebraska over Purdue
Nebraska has a total of nine points in the first half of its past three games and hasn't scored a TD in those six quarters. Offensive guard Tanner Farmer, safety Antonio Reed and corner Lamar Jackson were also banged up and helped off the field.
"As of today, or at least today, we have the best auto", Alonso said. Being only two tenths off the fastest time shows what a great job McLaren is doing. We keep improving the auto, we brought new updates to this race and they all delivered what we expected. "It's probably the best weekend of the whole season". "Today, for the first time in three years, we can be pretty sure that we had the best vehicle on track". Extremely happy with that.
"But we never give up and we are still improving the auto as much as we can and we are happy for that".
"Before the race, our engine performance wasn't very good here, so that's why we chose to get the penalty here to increase the engines for the rest of the season". "Since both drivers have sizeable grid penalties this weekend, it made much more sense for us to focus on race set-up - saving engine mileage and valuable tyres in the process - as we look ahead to what statistically-speaking is one of the more challenging races on the calendar for us". It was much better than we expected, but before the race our engine performance wasn't very good here.
"We have struggled with the penalties in the last few of races - we had penalties in Spa, in Monza, in Japan, and here".
