Sensex Zooms 135 Points at 31969, Nifty Above 10000


The Nifty opened above the 5 digit figure of 10,000 points, helped by stocks of International Olympic Committee and IndusInd which rose by more than 0.7% each in the morning trade.

The benchmark BSE Sensex was up 74 points or 0.23 percent at 31,907 in early trade while the broader Nifty index was up 27 points or 0.27 percent at 10,011.

Market breadth was negative with 882 advances against 1,654 declines.

The Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the BSE, which had closed at 31,833.99 points on Wednesday, opened higher at 31,887.47 points. "Nifty showing sharp intra-day weakness from the highs today is opening up the possibility for more weakness for the coming sessions", Deepak Jasani, Head - Retail Research, HDFC Securities, told IANS. "Major Asian markets have ended on mixed trend, while European indices like FTSE 100 and CAC 40 traded lower and DAX traded higher".

Among BSE sectoral indices, realty index gained the most by 1.11 per cent, followed by healthcare 0.87 per cent, metal 0.65 per cent and IT 0.64 per cent. "Market heavyweights TCS and Reliance Industries are slated to post results later this week", said Dhruv Desai, Director and Chief Operating Officer of Tradebulls. The Indian rupee opened flat at 65.13 per dollar on Thursday versus previous close 65.14.

In the Sensex kitty, Sun Pharma topped the gainers list by climbing 2.42 per cent to Rs 538.50 after the company said it has received establishment inspection report (EIR) from the United States health regulator for its Dadra facility. China's Shanghai Composite index was quoting in red, down by 0.18 per cent.
