Existing packs may choose to establish a new girl pack, establish a pack that consists of girl dens and boy dens or remain an all-boy pack. Although her membership in the Girl Scouts helped her build community and emergency preparedness, she wanted adventures that simply weren't available to the girls' program.

Former Girl Scout Stacy Rains disagrees, saying the change is an attempt to increase revenue.

On Wednesday the Boy Scouts announced that next year girls could be admitted into the Cub Scouts, and in 2019 a program for older girls will allow them to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.

"Today's decision reflects a reality of women in the workplace, their role in society, and the fact that they are taking on greater positions of responsibility", said Mead.

Snodgrass says she suspects the Boy Scouts may be dealing with a drop in participants.

"I would never want to leave the girls out", Signoretti said. Morcom said the girls were really excited to have a voice, and representation, at a senior level.

"I think it's good because it lets girls have a chance to do what boys do", Megan said. "We believe it is critical to evolve how our programs meet the needs of families interested in positive and lifelong experiences for their children", the statement said. The decision has seen both support and opposition, including here in central IL.

Local Boy Scout leaders hope this will bring families together.

Parents of boys enrolled in the scouts with daughters say they like the change, it will be easier for them.

Major changes are on the way for Boy Scouts of America.

That's because her daughter was one of those little girls who watched her brother during his Cub Scout meetings.

Bernadette Flicker of Palm Desert is an accomplished Girl Scout. "Girl Scouts affords those opportunities, so our girls haven't really felt the need elsewhere to develop those skills".

"I have been dreaming of this day for years honestly", said Martin.

Audrey Adamson was a girl scout and carried the legacy long after leaving her troop.
