Anupam Kher appointed as FTII chairman

It is a very humbling feeling and a great honour to be the chairman of FTII.

A veteran actor, Anupam Kher has won many national and worldwide awards, including the "Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Comic Role" five times. He was conferred with Padma Shri in 2004 and the Padma Bhushan in 2016.

Kher has worked in more than 500 films and over 100 plays in last three decades.

Similar to FTII, another organisation concerning the entertainment industry - the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) - was in news because of the person heading it.

A large number of FTII students went on an indefinite strike since June 12 protesting against the surprise appointment of Chauhan by Information & Broadcast Ministry'.

Speaking to a TV channel, he said he would understand what is needed from him at FTII and work accordingly. I think our voice has reached the masses, but our pleas to the government have certainly fallen on deaf ears. Anupam Kher replaced Gajendra Chauhan who had a tumultuous stint at the top post.

Born on 7 March 1955, in Shimla, Kher completed his education from the D A V School in the city.

Anupam, who began his acting career with "Saaransh" in 1984, also has his own acting institute Actor Prepares.

"Obviously, there's no doubt that there are differences between us (students and Kher)". Those who speak for BJP or RSS and support them are being appointed.
