Mrs Melton says her husband shielded her from the gunfire, but then was shot himself.

Heather, who's also a doctor, attempted to give her husband CPR, but he wasn't responding. The 33-year-old "was shot and ultimately lost her life in the hospital", police said in a statement.

"The officer actually covered up to protect me from being shot because I couldn't get out all the way", Davis said.
